This MP3 player is okay for what I intended. To be a pocket-size audiobook library and on-the-very-fast-go ebook reader. However, the first device I received had a very bad battery, and it could not hold a charge for more than 12 hours. Just sitting in my bag during my work day it lost 47% of a full charge doing absolutely nothing, not even background sync or updates because it was not tethered to any wifi at the time.
I was very disappointed and honestly afraid I was stuck with sending it back via Amazon and waiting for a refund to try something new. However, I reached out to Nine's customer service (contact email is in the user guide) and was very surprised to have gotten not only prompt replies but total understanding of the situation and immediate replacement of the device. The agent I worked with was very kind and handled things wonderfully.
The new device is much much better but I think in general the battery life on these little guys can be easily stressed. The replacement definitely will last all day and then some, but the battery struggles and drains very fast if I power it on and begin to use apps. This is not a problem for me, because all if I just let it rest as it boots (about 5 minutes) it's business as usual.
I have noticed that it will randomly turn off but I am not sure if that is a sleep function to preserve the battery so I'm not detracting for that just yet.
Nine does not make cases for this model yet, unfortunately. Don't bother looking, I experimented so you don't have to. If you need a case, get the one for the 4-inch Innosis MP3 player. It does not fit perfectly but it fits well enough to do it's job.
TLDR: this is a fine MP3 player for a small pocket reader, if you absolutely must be able to access the Google Play Store for additional apps. Let it rest when you power it on or the battery will begin to drain very fast. A sleep function (probably) powers it down so don't panic if it seems to randomly shut off. Nine does not have a case for it yet, use the 4-inch Innosis case.
